Toyota Motor Corporation and Lexus have reportedly issued a safety recall for approximately 460,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a stability control (VSC) system glitch. According to Toyota’s investigation, a software error is causing troubles leading to VSC not switching on by default while starting the vehicle which implies that the vehicle is not in compliance with regulations applicable in the United States.
It is worth noting that the vehicles that are a part of this recall include the 2020-2022 Toyota Mirai, RAV4 Prime, Venza, RAV4 Hybrid Highlander Hybrid, and Sienna hybrid as well as Lexus LX600, LS500h, NX450H+, and NX350h models.
Both Toyota and Lexus will notify the impacted models’ owners from mid-June as well as fix the issue by updating the software of the Skid control of ECU at no additional cost to the customers.
For those unaware, last month Toyota announced a recall of its models C-HR built during 2020-2021, which involved around 36,558 vehicles. The SUVs were recalled due to their optional front collision prevention system, which upon failure does not display an error message as well as is unable to detect a vehicle in front and provide warnings or breaking assistance.
In another development, Toyota Motor is planning to launch a sport utility vehicle version of its Crown Sedan in North America, China, and Japan. The company has been producing Crown Sedan for nearly seven decades and is quite popular in the Japanese market.
The SUV is expected to be launched in fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid versions. Even Lexus is likely to soon launch the RZ, its first-ever all-electric vehicle. This electric SUV employs a platform that has been specially developed for EVs but will also share some parts with the Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X.
