The Hop, a modern fixed-transit network, has reportedly collaborated with Smart City Media LLC to execute a smart kiosk transport program that is developed to aid streetcar operations while promoting stronger networks between streetcar routes and key activity centers throughout the central business district.
Sources cite that the company would install 35 digital kiosks, called CityPosts, along and near The Hop’s route. Smart City Media, one of the leading companies in digital media solutions with wide experience in installing their smart kiosk products with transportation solutions, inked this contract following an RFP process in the year 2019.
Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Mayor, said that the smart kiosk program would be a great asset to the whole community and would substantially improve the streetcar experience for regular riders as well as visitors. This kiosk program would bridge the gap between high-traffic downtown regions while developing a profound revenue stream to aid streetcar operations.
Sources cite that these smart kiosks are going to be dual-sided, consisting of 55” touch screens that are completely ADA accessible and interactive. Moreover, it would provide curated local content in several languages to assist visitors and residents with connections, wayfinding, transit use, and other city information.
The units are also said to offer free Wi-Fi for the public and include security cameras that will be incorporated with MPD’s present surveillance systems.
Tom Touchet, CEO, and President, Smart City Media, said that the company is thrilled to commence this collaboration with the City of Milwaukee and commence deploying its advanced smart city solutions in this city on the rise.
The company’s CityPost kiosks infuse media, interactivity, and technology into public infrastructure, developing a synergy that offers exceptional benefits to the entire community. The company is looking forward to giving its fruitful contribution to the connected and more dynamic environment in Milwaukee.
