Tesla, an American EV & clean energy company, is currently planning to provide an all-in-one home & car energy package, which may include controlled charging times for EV drivers in Germany.
Several energy companies such as Powershop, Origin, & AGL in Australia, are presently focusing on offering cheaper tariffs for the EV drivers. They are also encouraging drivers to adopt the battery-powered cars due to the rising electricity demand. Several other automakers are also looking for ways to enter the energy market.
As per reports, Tesla has conducted a survey on whether German EV drivers would prefer the company to schedule the car charging times as a part of the recent all-in-one package, to gain an advantage of the cheaper tariffs. The survey also includes questions regarding the interest of these drivers in purchasing Tesla solar panels, a Powerwall, a Wall Connector EV charge unit, and also potential factors that would lead them to switch to another energy company. The data from the survey reportedly hints at the combination of all these offerings in Tesla’s ‘energy package’.
The survey questions also include types of payment models preferred by the drivers, including a ‘day-ahead, hourly-variable price per kWh’, in order to determine the degree at which these EV drivers would be prepared prior to offering them the control over the charging times.
Furthermore, Tesla had reportedly applied for a license to the energy regulator in the UK to sell energy. The company’s acquisition of SolarCity in 2016 is a part of its master plan to drive its expansion in the energy market. In addition to Tesla, other EV manufacturers are also eyeing to expand their footprints in this market. For instance, in 2019, Volkswagen, a German auto giant, had announced that it will expand its offerings through the addition of electric car charging and renewable household energy systems under Elli Group, its subsidiary.
Tesla declined to respond to queries on the addition of a similar package in Australia.
