Telstra is reportedly building its 5G network ahead of time and has extended its reach across 47 Australian cities. Additionally, the company is unveiling a mobile broadband device that can compete directly with the NBN (National Broadband Network).
As per the statement made by Channa Seneviratne, network engineering executive of Telstra, the telecommunications company has been targeting to launch the 5G network to over 35 cities by June. However, it is reportedly working on beating the original rollout target owing to the significant push by the workers internally. Since it launched the commercial 5G network a year ago, Telestra has seen a massive expansion in the number of potential customers from 4 million to 8 million.
The company revealed its spending on the 5G capacity in March, with $500 million originally scheduled to be spent from the 2nd half of 2020-2021, which is currently allotted to be expended in 2020. It has invested nearly $8 billion in its mobile network. It also recently gave the latest update as the company is set for the upcoming auction of the 5G mmWave (millimeter wave) spectrum, scheduled to be conducted at the beginning of 2021. This millimeter wave spectrum can be adopted to develop fixed-line services and deliver high-speed mobile networks. The spectrum can be used to create offers for businesses and homes. It could be also perfectly employed in the closed factory environment as it offers low latency, high speed as well as capacity.
Mr. Seneviratne added that the company is focusing on rapidly giving Australians access to the 5G network. The new spectrum will create a wireless environment in factories. The company will also use it to serve consumers in CBDs, stadiums, train stations, and other hot spots.
The recently launched 5G Wi-Fi Pro device by Telstra will support these spectrum services and support over 30 Wi-Fi enabled devices and Wi-Fi 6 technology with enhanced performance.
