Sika starts manufacturing safety masks after hand sanitizers

Swiss chemical specialty major Sika has reportedly commenced the production of safety masks at its Les Salles du Gardon facility in France. Sika has proceeded for manufacturing safety masks citing health concerns for its employees as well as customers.

The masks have been made up of polyester-based protective layers and silicone-based sealants used in construction facilities for glazing and jointing. Sika has begun manufacturing masks after the development of its hand sanitizer production capacity.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Sika Group intends to focus on the safety of its employees and customers, says Ivo Schadler, EMEA Regional Manager at Sika. He has further added that the company has been aware of the challenges faced by countries worldwide and emphasizes the use of its high-performance technology in the mask manufacturing process.

Sika technologies are renowned for meeting the highest standards for construction applications. The face masks have been tested by the French authorities and are compliant with hygiene regulations in the battle against Covid-19. Sika has a production capacity to manufacture 15,000 masks per day. The company has produced 50,000 masks so far and orders have been placed for over 165,000 more.

Sika has also produced 35,000 liters of hand sanitizers since March 2020 at 15 Sika national subsidiaries. So far, the sanitizer has been supplied to various hospitals, nursing homes and blood donor centers to support global efforts to contain the pandemic.
