Luxembourg-based satellite and terrestrial telecommunications network provider SES Networks has reportedly joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) Inc.’s ‘Direct Connect Delivery Partner’ program.
Following a review of technical and business processes, Amazon’s subsidiary AWS approved of SES’s capability in connecting customers directly to AWS services over the company’s network of multi-orbit satellites.
The partner program provides SES customers with secure, flexible, and reliable access to their cloud-based assets from any part of the world, at any time of the day. This move, in particular, is a major advantage to customers working in a remote location.
SES customers will also be able to enjoy better efficiency and productivity, with the added benefit of elasticity and cost savings offered by AWS, irrespective of the local network infrastructure options and geographical location, cited knowledgeable sources.
CEO of SES Networks, JP Hemingway, on the matter, expressed that attaining AWS Direct Connect Partner status is another milestone in the company as continues its cloud-first approach to empower customers with direct access to several cloud providers so they have flexibility in running operations across different clouds based on function, use, case, regions or other factors.
He further went on to state that the organization’s multi-orbit network provides a marriage of global coverage and high-performance, low-latency connections transmit customers into AWS from virtually anywhere.
Elaborating further on the company’s progress, Hemingway added that their next-generation O3b mPOWER system will take the cloud capabilities to a higher plane and will set new industry benchmarks on a terabit scale.
For the record, AWS Direct Connect allows customers to easily establish a dedicated network connection between their operational sites and AWS data centers at speeds ranging from 50 Mbps-100 Gbps.
SES will use its Cloud Direct service to connect customers to AWS data centers over its network of geostationary (GEO) satellites and medium earth orbit (MEO). This service will also be accessible on SES’s upcoming O3b mPOWER and MEO constellation that are scheduled to launch later this year, cited credible sources.
