Online movies and video streaming are gaining popularity recently. Various media streaming firms are collaborating with a number of entertainment companies in order to set themselves apart from the growing competition in the online video streaming field as well as to offer better video streaming experience to their users.
Plex, a client-server media player as well as a software suite firm, reportedly announced its collaboration with Lionsgate, an American entertainment company headquartered in Santa Monica, California.
Plex’s service will now have movies from Lionsgate, who will join Warner Bros.; existing partner of Plex, to help the media streaming company fill the soon to launch video-on-demand service.
However, while videos of Warner Bros. would still be limited to the viewers of U.S., the Lionsgate deal is made for worldwide streaming. Despite this, Plex noted that there might be some titles that would have geo-restrictions.
Though Plex started as a media organizer, in recent years, the firm has expanded itself, aiming on being a one-stop-shop for all the media needs of customers. These needs include streaming as well as recording from live TV, access to news, web series and podcasts, plus streaming music through a TIDAL partnership.
Plex is currently used by 20 million people, and while the firm doesn’t detail the subscriber numbers, the company has achieved profitability.
Earlier in August, CEO of Plex, Keith Valory, stated that Plex has always been finding solutions to new media challenges, and the company’s aim is to tame the increasing chaos into media landscape.
Elaborating on the Lionsgate deal, Keith Valory stated that Lionsgate is among the biggest business names in the industry and Plex knows that its millions of users would enjoy the free access to their collection of movies.
Plex has plans to unveil its new, ad-supported and free streaming service in late 2019. Plex stated that it is engaged with some other partners to get additional content agreements before the launch of its new streaming service.
This new, ad-supported and free movie service is another great opportunity for users to get free movies on a service which they are already using. The Lionsgate video content will get added to Plex library later this year, but a date for this integration has not been announced by the media company yet.
