Pixelworks Inc., a leading advanced visual processing solutions provider, and YOUKU have recently inked a multi-year marketing and license agreement for advancing the High Dynamic Range (HDR) video format ecosystem for mobile devices in China.
Sources familiar with the matter informed that under the agreement, YOUKU will use the TrueCut platform of Pixelworks to remaster present titles in HDR and also make new titles for its rising subscriber base of over 500 million users.
Seemingly, mobile OEMs would be provided with TrueCut certification solutions by Pixelworks for new devices, enabling a superior viewing experience for users on compatible mobile devices and allowing advanced HDR-quality video streaming of YOUKU content.
According to COO of YOUKU and Alibaba Vice President Zhuang Zhuoran, to provide customers high-quality video content has always been the most important mission for YOUKU. The online video business of the company is completely created on an end-consuming and customized content production platform, he said.
YOUKU is always dedicated to providing content that depicts the original artistic intent and the company believes high-quality HDR is one of the significant ways for their users to experience video storytelling, Zhuoran mentioned.
YOUKU’s efforts to deliver the highest video quality as well as maintain content creators’ original intent shows why they are called worldwide leader in video media, said EVP of Technology at Pixelworks, Richard Miller.
The company is looking forward to working together with YOUKU for advancing a superior quality HDR ecosystem in China that would be defined by consistently greater user experience and excellence, Miller added.
For the uninitiated, TrueCut is a new, cinematic video platform that brings extended creative choices for visual storytelling and ensures the constant delivery of artistic purpose across screens. Pixelworks develops, creates and markets high-quality visual display processing and cutting-edge video delivery solutions for streaming applications and highest quality display.
