Panasonic India is reportedly planning to accrue around 20 percent market share in the full-frame mirrorless camera segment through a sale of nearly INR 100 crore in a year, stated a top company official.
The consumer electronics giant, which recently ventured into the full-frame mirrorless camera segment, anticipates high demand for better image quality from business segments like advertising, wedding, and fashion to help it amass the market share, cited credible sources.
Manish Sharma, President and CEO of Panasonic India, said in a statement that the potential of DSLR market in India is valued at around INR 2,000 crore, with the full-frame camera range accounting for around 25 percent of the market share, which is around INR 500 crore to INR 600 crore.
Sharma further stated that utilizing this, the company is expecting a revenue of about INR 100 crore with a 20 percent market share in the full-frame mirrorless camera segment within the first year.
For the uninitiated, unlike DSLR cameras, a mirrorless camera does not need a reflex mirror. As with high-end DSLR cameras, a full-frame mirrorless camera employs a digital sensor of large 35 mm format.
According to Sharma, mirrorless cameras account for about 25 percent within the interchangeable lens category, and this number is bound to change swiftly.
For the record, Panasonic has recently launched Lumix S series full-frame mirrorless cameras in the Indian market including LUMIX S1 and LUMIX S1R, with a resolution of 24 megapixels and 47.3 megapixels respectively. The S1 model is available for INR Rs 1.99 lakh (only body) and for INR 2.68 lakh with 24-105 mm F4 lens included, while the S1R costs INR 2.99 lakh (only body) and INR 3.67 lakh with a 24-105 mm F4 lens included, claimed sources familiar with the development.
The new models have more buttons on the user interface than the previous model, which would allow users to easily maneuver while capturing pictures, without needing to change the camera settings, Sharma added.
