Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has recently commenced the home delivery of essential services by partnering with the local kirana stores in Kalyan, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. This announcement follows the recent stake acquisition deal declared by the Indian multinational conglomerate between its Jio Platforms and Facebook.
The delivery services are being offered under an e-Commerce venture, JioMart, of Reliance Retail (a subsidiary of RIL). This is the 1st of the deal made with Facebook to adopt WhatsApp, under the recent deal formed on 22nd April. Additional benefits offered include express delivery, no minimum order value, and free home delivery, among others.
Sources familiar with the matter have stated that the online orders placed by 5 p.m. would be picked up from the nearest JioMart kirana shops from the customers’ location within two days. To avail this service, customers reportedly need to register by updating their details such as society name, locality, area, mobile number, and others. Kalyan, Thane, and Navi Mumbai are the 1st locales where the new services are being launched. However, the company is planning to extend its services to other cities as well, in a phased manner.
In order to obtain the new service, the customers can send a ‘Hi’ message to JioMart through WhatsApp on their phones, following which, RIL will send a link for users to make online orders. The Facebook-owned WhatsApp has users of up to 400 million in India. The company is planning to update new order payments feature in the messaging & Voice over IP service platform.
Facebook, the global technology giant, has recently signed a binding agreement in Jio Platforms, the wholly owned subsidiary of RIL, to invest Rs 43,574 crore and acquire a 9.99% equity stake in Jio Platforms. The agreement was signed to boost the digital services on JioMart.
