Frontier, Spirit merge to become the fifth largest airline in the U.S.

Frontier Group Holdings and Spirit Airlines recently announced a merger agreement which will result in the creation of one of the most competitive ultra-low fare airlines in the United States.

Together, Spirit and Frontier expect to change the industry for consumers, introducing ultra-low fares to passengers in several destinations across Latin America, the United States, and the Caribbean, for both underserved communities as well as urban areas.

Chair of Frontier’s Board of Directors, William A. Franke, who is also the managing partner in Indigo, a majority shareholder in Frontier, noted that Indigo has a long history with both Spirit and Frontier, and the company is excited to go on this new venture of creating a disruptive player in the airline business.

Ted Christie, CEO, and President of Spirit was quoted saying that the deal will facilitate the creation of an ultra-low fare competitor to boost career opportunities for employees, serve guests even better, and take on the competition.

He further added that the company seeks to pool its talented teams and shake up the airline industry while also keeping its commitment to providing excellent Guest service.

Under the agreement, the newly merged airline is also expected to offer over 1000 daily flights to 145 destinations across 19 countries; create USD 1 billion in annual consumer savings and expand its frequent membership and flyer offerings.

On the sustainability front, Spirit and Frontier will become America’s Greenest Airline, as they will provide countrywide access to affordable and sustainable air travel.
