CMR Surgical (CMR), a global surgical robotics business, recently revealed plans to build a new manufacturing site in Cambridgeshire, UK.
The site is intended to be opened to upscale manufacturing processes in order to cater to the growing global demand for Versius Surgical Robotic System, an important surgical tool in many hospitals across India, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East.
After the recent conclusion of the biggest MedTech?private financing round globally, CMR is focused on?the ongoing commercialization of Versius and the building of its?manufacturing capability will support this. Together with this, CMR is determined to invest in future technological developments for its digital ecosystem as well as Versius that will be advantageous for surgeons and enhance surgical care on a global scale.
The new facility will have an extent of 7,044.8 sq. m. (75,832 sq. ft.) of floor space and will accommodate around 200 skilled employees starting from production, manufacturing engineering, quality, operations, supply, and logistics.?The site will be?located?in Ely, in the vicinity of the Company’s headquarters in Cambridge.
CMR Surgical CEO, Per Vegard, mentioned that they are witnessing strong demand for Versius in markets across the globe and their commitment to building a new manufacturing facility indicates this while focusing on their goal to transform surgery.
He further added that the workforce in Cambridgeshire will play a critical role in helping them deliver systems to serve patients all around the world and that they see this as an important development in their company’s growth strategy.
CMR Surgical COO, Barrington D’Arcy, mentioned that establishing a top-class manufacturing facility to cater to the worldwide demand was a reasonable step forward for CMR. He added that connecting their workforce across various departments will help them bring together the best talent to deliver an upscaled commercial production of Versius.
