Changan Auto recently announced at its 2021 Tech Ecosystem Summit that it aims to make sales of 3 million vehicles in 2025, of which 35% will be new energy vehicles (NEVs). Changan’s annual is eyeing sales to reach 4.5 million vehicles annually by 2030, of which 60% will be NEVs, and 30% will be contributed by overseas markets.
It is worth noting that in 2020, the company sold 2,003,663 new vehicles, 14% more in comparison to 2019. In the first seven months of this year, Changan’s sales augmented 38.4% year on year to 1,378,788 vehicles. This year on May 10, the combined production volume of the group’s Chinese brand reached a mark of 20 million vehicles, the first among all Chinese vehicle brands.
At the summit, Changan launched its "New Auto, New Ecology" development strategy to become a smart low-carbon mobility technology company. In the coming five years, the company will invest RMB 150 billion (around USD 23.15 billion) for the complete industry chain to create a technology ecology and enhance the growth of its software and intelligence capability.
Presently, the company invests 5% of its annual sales to research and development per year with around USD 16.98 billion since the beginning of the 11th Five-year Plan Period.
The company further revealed details about the first model under advanced smart EV brand Avatar, a battery-operated EV based on its brand-new platform and the latest auto project code-named EO.
Changan, along with Huawei and CATL, uncovered part of the first high-end smart electric SUV, code-named E11, under the Avatar brand, which was collectively developed by the three companies. In the coming years, the three companies will jointly develop the CHN platform, on which the E11 is built, to provide a competitive Smart EV product portfolio.
The automaker also revealed the C385, the first strategic model built on its EV-dedicated platform, as well as a new vehicle project codenamed E0. The company is banking on these projects to help it reach its goal of propelling vehicle sales.
