BlackBerry Limited is reportedly working with BDStar Intelligent & Connected Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd. (BICV) on an intelligent cockpit for the first fully electric sedan named "Yi," which is being manufactured in a strategic alliance between Groupe Renault and Jiangling Motors Corporation Limited.
Sources claimed that they will use BlackBerry’s QNX technology, as the QNX Hypervisor and QNX Neutrino Realtime Operating System (RTOS) will assist in the creation of a leading-edge system that will facilitate design flexibility and scalability while also providing EV drivers with an engaging experience.
It is worth noting that the digital cockpit is likely to have dual-linked screens, complete LCD instrumentation, and an expansive central console. It also has several additional design elements such as Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), in-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI), Head-Up Display (HUD), and Voice and Gesture Recognition.
As far as technology is concerned, the cockpit will encompass artificial intelligence (AI), hologram functions, and augmented reality (AR). This will allow for innovative enhancements such as intelligent seats and ambient lighting in the vehicle. It will also enable a great deal of customization for both passengers and drivers.
BICV Chairman Xu Linhao stated that QNX technology has become one of the world's most renowned automotive real-time operating systems due to its remarkable stabilization, heavy security, and fast-moving speed. It makes it simpler to unite multiple systems with distinct operating environments and blended criticality on a single hardware platform, making the EV an intuitive joyride for customers underpinned by the highest level of safety.
Notably, the EV produced in China is also being exported to Europe. Renault's subscription-based mobility service, Mobilize, will use it as the go-to vehicle for individuals working in the ride-hailing business.
