German e-scooter company Tier has reportedly acquired Wind Mobility’s Italian subsidiary, Vento Mobility, in a move that marks its entry to the Italian market and adds to its rapidly expanding European footprint.
Last month, Tier also acquired German bike-sharing company- Nextbike, in order to become multi-modal and further strengthen its micro mobility domain.
Since its inception, Tier has procured Makery, a company that delivers various digital services like design & management, product strategy, engineering, training & support, staff augmentation, and testing & quality, as well as Pushme, a company that offers battery swap solutions.
On the other hand, Wind Mobility recently traded off its Israeli operations to Russian company Yandex. The company has raised around USD 72 million, and its last funding was a Series A round in 2019.
Tier also secured USD 200 million as a part of its Series D round in October, taking its total funding raised to date to around USD 647 million.
CEO and co-founder of Tier Mobility, Lawrence Leuschner, mentioned that the company is elated to expand its mission to ‘Change Mobility for Good’ to this new market and looks forward to offering low emission micro mobility options to cities and support them in shifting to a zero-emission future.
It is worth noting that the Italian fleet of micro-mobility sharing company Wind Mobility is comprised of around 4,500 e-scooters across 11 towns & cities, however, Tier won’t be taking over the fleet but will bring its own scooters. It will likely obtain all of Wind’s Italian staff, and add 1000 more employees to its team.
Bari and Palermo will be the first cities where the latest generation of Tier e-scooters will be available. In the coming time, other Italian cities will follow. The Berlin-headquartered company is currently present in over 165 cities in 18 countries.
