Emerging start-up in next-gen instant games, Artie has reportedly announced around $10 million in funding, in a bid to rethink the distribution of mobile games. Apparently, this strategic move represents a pivot from the start-up’s original vision of making augmented reality avatars.
The CEO of Artie, Ryan Horrigan stated that his collaboration with the Co-founder and CTO of the company, Armando Kirwin has paved the way for a distribution technology that solves bigger challenges in mobile gaming.
For those unversed, several startups are also working towards app-less mobile gaming. Giving his insights on the same, Horrigan revealed that his company supports Unity, while other firms are making use of JavaScript and HTML5, giving Artie the ability to build casual games.
It has been proposed that Artie’s platform would let users play mobile games from the browser or online shared links, and does not necessitate the installation of an app.
Furthermore, as per the CEO, the company would be running Unity games on their cloud systems in similarity to cloud games. He suggested that rather than offering graphics on the cloud and passing on the video to players, the company would not be running graphics on the cloud. Instead, the start-up would be streaming highly-optimized assets and animations that are rendered in real-time with the help of embedded web browsers.
Reportedly, Artie is coming up and releasing its own games and has planned the launch of an Alice in Wonderland game, and a beer pong game, among many others later this year. Meanwhile, a massively multiplayer online game has been scheduled for launch in 2022. Furthermore, the start-up is also looking forward to releasing an SDK that can aid other developers with distribution through its platform.
On a concluding note, Horrigan divulged that the initially provided games by the company would be free-to-play and monetized by way of in-game purchases. He also said that the firm would be making use of cookies in order to know the players’ progress in the game and to help the players create their logins.
