Aramark, a world leader in facilities management, food & uniforms has reportedly committed to reduce use of single-use disposable plastic by the year 2022. If sources are to be believed, Aramark will be implementing the move for reducing the usage of single-use plastic items across all its operations globally.
For the record, single-use plastic items contain stirrers, bags, straws, cutlery & other packaging materials. Aramark serves around 2 billion meals annually in schools, workplaces, sports & leisure venues, hospitals & other locations in close to 19 countries. If reports are to be believed, Aramark runs the food service operations of over 2,000 health care facilities, 1,500 schools, and close to 5,400 business dining locations. The company incidentally, will be working in conjunction with consumers & customers to achieve considerable progress in this commitment which eventually aim to reduce the waste even before it is created & make this planet healthier.
Presently, the primary environmental concern regarding the usage of plastics is their impact on marine life, given that plastic leakage in the oceans amounts to around 8 million tons per year. A recently conducted survey by Aramark shows that 60% of respondents are worried about the overuse of plastic & around 80% are trying to minimize personal consumption by reusing & recycling plastic bottle & bags.
Eric Foss, CEO, Chairman & President of Aramark, had been quoted to state that the company’s announcement regarding its commitment to shelve off plastic usage is basically an opportunity that Aramark intends to make use of, in order to make significant contributions toward minimizing the disastrous impact of plastic on the environment. While simultaneously continuing to offer experiences that nourish lives, Aramark intends to take all the necessary steps to protect preserve the oceanic bodies across the globe, he further added.
As per an official statement, the move will lead to a reduction of almost 100 million straws being used around the world.
