All Nippon Airways and Singapore Airlines to form new joint venture

Singapore Airlines, the flag carrier airline of Singapore, and All Nippon Airways, Japan’s largest airline in terms of passengers and revenue, are likely to form a new joint venture this month.
The proposal, if approved by relevant authorities from both parties, would pave the way for ANA and SIA to pool and share each other’s resources over routes and also talk and coordinate networks, flight capacity, schedules, inventory, and fare pricing.
This would be ANA’s (All Nippon Airways’) third collaboration, after its previous joint ventures with Lufthansa (to Germany) and United (to the US). Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines also has a JV with Lufthansa (to Germany).
The scope of this proposed JV (joint venture) revolves around flights between Japan and Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, India, and Malaysia.
According to reliable reports, the new collaboration, which would go beyond both carriers’ present code-sharing contract to coordinate fares and schedules, is anticipated to begin around 2021, after the airlines gain the necessary antitrust exemptions.
Singapore Airlines stated that ANA and SIA are members of Star Alliance. Both airlines have enjoyed cooperating over codeshares as well as in other related fields that have brought new benefits to the customers of both companies. As the company does with all other airline members, it has regular discussions regarding the expansion of its cooperation to offer more opportunities and value to customers.
ANA also recently announced a novel codeshare collaboration with Virgin Australia. This partnership would see both airlines adopt codeshare flights between Australia and Japan and establish reciprocal frequent flyer advantages for their members.
If the joint venture is approved, SIA and ANA would be the latest Southeast Asian and Japanese airlines to collaborate, the recent Malaysia Airlines and Japan Airlines joint venture, which geographically is the same, being the other.
